DESIGN CHALLENGE

10 Human Phycological Factors

Our professor gave us two research articles to read for out Human Factors class.  Both of these articles discussed the ten human physiological needs and how to correlate to peoples day to day lives. These articles challenged us to have a better understanding of ten humans needs which are Autonomy, Competence, Relatedness, Self-Actualization, Physical Thriving, Pleasure stimulation, Money/Luxury, Security, Self-esteem, and popularity. Cora focuses on the needs of Physical Thriving and Competence. For these needs to be meet people need to feel that they got enough exercise and are capable and effective with their actions.

SOLUTION OVERVIEW

Connecting Athletes With Their PT / Coach / Physiologists

To tackle this design challenge, my team of 5 focused on athletes and providing them with a personalized and comprehensive recovery plan that focuses on both the physical and mental components of an injury with an easier way to track their progress. Through research and ideation we created CORA, a wearable smart sleeve that provides muscle activation data, paired with a mobile application that connects athletes with their physical trainer, sports psychologist, and coach to create a seamless at-home physical therapy experience.

FINAL SOLUTION

After conducting primary and secondary research, a week look sprint, ideation, and lastly our low, mid, and high-fi prototypes with user testing we were able to make some final changes to produce our final results, CORA, a wearable smart sleeve that provides muscle activation data, paired with a mobile application that connects athletes with their physical trainer, sports psychologist, and coach to create a seamless at-home physical therapy experience.

REFLECTION

This project really hit home for me because I was a student athlete who had to step away from a sport that I loved due to injuries. After multiple iterations we developed a product that works seamlessly with our app, I believe that the smart compression sleeve best alines with our users needs. Our product not only addresses the physical health of athletes but also mental health by pairing athletes with a sports psychologist.
